Schengen area: Serbs, Macedonians and Montenegrans without obligation of a visa for short stays
The abolition decided on November 30th 2009 which accepts the proposal put forward by the European Union prevails. A biometric passport is required.
The new regime which does not require a visa for Serbs, Macedonians and Montenegrans is applied to all those who hold a biometric passport in which fingerprints are recorded in the microchip. Whereas for all others, including Serbs resident in Kosovo with a Serbian passport, a visa is still required.
Without a visa however travel is only permitted for tourism, business, missions, invitations and sporting events for three months. For the purpose of work in Italy authorisation must be obtained from the Italian authorities.
A visa is required for nationals from Bosnia Herzegovina and Albania, countries where the fight against corruption and organized crime is still taking place and where immigration, frontiers and possession of a biometric passport are not yet sufficiently well organised.
The Schengen area at present comprises 28 countries: Italy, Belgium, France, Germany, Luxemburg, Low Countries, Portugal, Spain, Austria, Greece, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Iceland, Norway, Slovenia, Estonia, Lettonia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Malta, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Cyprus, Bulgaria and Romania.
