Where to submit the application:

Persons resident abroad
Persons of Italian origin who are living abroad,should proceed to the Italian Consulate Office in
their country of residence.

Persons resident in Italy
Persons of Italian origin who are living in Italy and who wish to obtain Italian Citizenship, should
proceed to the Mayor’s Comune Office where they are resident.

Persons resident in Prato
The application for Italian Citizenship should be submitted to the Mayor’s Office in Prato Comune –
Citizenship Offices (Ufficio Cittadinanza).

Requirements

- to be resident in Prato Comune
- to be descendant of an Italian emigrant.

Descendants of Italian citizens, as far back as four generations, can apply for Italian citizenship on
condition that they are resident in an Italian comune.

Required documents

The Foreign National who wishes to apply for Italian Citizenship must provide the following documents:
- long version birth certificate of the Italian ancestor who emigrated abroad, issued by the
Comune of his/her place of birth;
- birth Certificate of all persons in direct decsendancy line;
- birth Certificate of Applicant;
- marriage Certificate of the Italian ancestor who emigrated abroad and also of all persons in
direct descendancy line;
- death Certificate of the Italian ancestor who emigrated abroad and also of all persons in
direct descendancy line;
- certificate issued by the relevant Authority of the State in the country where the ancestor
emigrated confirming that the said ancestor did not attain Citizenship of that country before the
date of birth of the applicant.

All foreign documentaion must be authorised and translated into Italian by the Italian Consulate /
Diplomatic Authority in the country of origin.
