The new European Health Card replaces the old Fiscal Code and is valid throughout Italy. It also allows the holder to avail of health care in other member states of the European Union (thus replacing the E111 Form).

The Fiscal Code is required for:
- To register with and avail of the National Health System;
- To be hired as employees;
- To start up own business;
- To stipulate any legal contract (eg. rental, sales etc.);
- To open a bank account.

The necessary documents to obtain a fiscal code:
- A valid Residency Permit;
- Photocopy of Passport.

If you do not have a Residency Permit:
- Identification attestation document issued by Consolar Authority in country of origin;
- Photocopy of Passport.

Alternative documents to present:
- Photocopy of receipt for Residency Permit;
- Employment contract;
- Photocopy of Passport.
