The State Police force has produced an information channel dealing with permits which can be consulted directly from the main site.
Foreign citizens waiting for permits to be issued, renewals or duplicates of stay permits will find answers to questions at http://www.poliziadistato.it/articolo/15002-Check_online_your_stay_permit , which provides access to a specific data bank of information. The same service is available through www.poliziadistato.mobi and can be consulted easily on cell phones.
The service is available in various languages: Italian, English, French, Spanish, Russian and Arabic. To check on a stay permit insert the numerical code of your application if it was presented at the Police Station, or the insurance code if presented at the Post Office.
A few minutes surfing through the system contents will lead to the service providing information concerning the current status of the application: your permit is ready; is not ready. The service will also tell you, by means of an interactive map of Italy, which office to go to in order to collect your permit.
